An MBA Success Story

In this time of gloomy forecasts and news, we would like to share with you an uplifting story of success involving an MBA member. Early this summer, Master Builders Career Connection (MBCC) partnered with the Center for Career Alternatives (CCA) to place interns with MBA member companies free of charge through the Summer Youth Employment Program.   The program provided paid internship opportunities to disadvantaged youths so that they could learn skills to prepare them for permanent jobs.

Rubbish Truck, a professional rubbish removal company and new MBA member, decided to participate in the program. John Davies, owner of Rubbish Truck, was excited about the chance to mentor a youth. John wanted more than to just make a living, he wanted to make a difference, and this internship program gave him that opportunity.

Rubbish Truck was originally paired with an intern, but was so pleased with the results, that two more interns were added.   More importantly, the company was so satisfied with the experience that it intends to hire these interns once they complete their GED.

Both John and his supervisor Joe Prisco have taken mentoring young people to heart and have done a great job in helping these interns really learn about our business.  It is a relationship that benefits everyone and is a model of MBAs commitment to the future of our industry.

Last Tuesday, Rubbish Truck and its interns were recognized by Senator Patty Murray as an example of an outstanding & successful workforce training program funded by stimulus money.  We too, want to congratulate Rubbish Truck and its interns for their achievements and to encourage other MBA members to get involved with training our youth.

If you are interested in mentoring an intern, please contact Cathy Feole, Executive Director, Master Builders Career Connection at 425 460-8214.
