Record Rampathon™ in Centennial year

Rampathon wins national honor
Rampathon™ featured on KING 5 News

Rampathon™ 2009 hit full stride Saturday, May 16, with the completion of a record 32 free wheelchair ramps for low-income disabled. A final tally revealed that another record was set with more than 465 volunteers participating this year.

Pacific Ridge Homes and Irons Brothers Construction kicked off the 16th Annual Rampathon by building showcase ramps in Snohomish and King counties while ramps built in Everett and Greenwood became examples for the community and media. Television, radio, newspapers, blogs, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube all publicized Rampathong 2009and featured stories illustrating the community spirit of the homebuilding industry.

Rampathon, presented this year by Dunn Lumber and Washington Federal Savings, clearly demonstrated how much the homebuilding industry cares about the community. Even in rough economic times, members of the Master Builders Association channeled their resources to build ramps for low-income disabled homeowners.

To quote coolguy1, who used the Internet to comment on the Seattle Times article, "What a cool project - this is a great service to those in need and a real 'feel-good,' neighborly act. I applaud the Master Builders Assn and all of their volunteers."

During its Centennial year, association members embraced Rampathon from day one. The Rampathon committee and its co-chairs got a huge jump on the event with timely planning - ramp captains and their teams volunteered early, individual volunteers stepped up to make deliveries and donors came through with significant contributions.

Thanks to all who supported a very successful Rampathon. Perhaps 84 year old ramp recipient Lois Elliot spoke for all ramp recipients when she said, Rampathon volunteers "are the most wonderful people, the most wonderful people I've ever met in my life. You can come back to my house anytime. And if you want some cookies, call me."

Sponsors Plywood Supply, Rodda Paint, Sandusky Radio, Janes Gypsum Floors, Wine Valley Siding and KING TV joined presenting sponsors Dunn Lumber and Washington Federal Savings in supporting Rampathon this year.
