Snohomish County Updating Shoreline Master Plan

On October 23, the Snohomish County Planning Commission held a hearing on proposed amendments to the county’s Shoreline Management Program (SMP). The plan was last updated in 2012 and must be again updated to reflect changes in applicable state shoreline laws and guidelines. The county has until June 30, 2019 to finalize the plan. Review a staff report detailing potential changes.

There are two changes that may benefit some. One is a clarification that SMPs may classify legally established residential structures as conforming even if they do not meet certain requirements. The other is to allow a special, common-line setback for new single-family development on vacant lots on specific, highly developed shorelines throughout the county.
