As part of its 2019-2021 Planning Work Program, the city of Kirkland is proposing amendments to Kirkland Zoning Code (KZC) Chapter 113, the city’s duplex, triplex and cottage housing regulations to encourage the production of this type of housing in all low-density zones, including Houghton.

Proposed amendments to the city’s accessory dwelling unit (ADU) regulations are also in progress as a separate project. The city is deeply engaged in conversations to bring more equitable, diverse, and attainable housing product of all types to Kirkland and to provide more missing middle housing through zoning and code changes.
