The Skyway-West Hill Subarea Plan has been released as one of the proposed 2020 amendments to King County’s Comprehensive Plan. This proposal includes housing policies designed to increase the number of residential and mixed-use buildings in the areas near commercial centers and transit corridors and encourage new development in medium-density residential neighborhoods.

The Subarea Plan is scheduled for adoption by County Council in conjunction with the Comprehensive Plan update in June 2020. The Permitting Division at King County will then draft and propose code changes to align with the policies adopted in the Subarea Plan. The scope of work will include compatibility considerations including heights, setbacks from streets and adjacent properties, parking, accessory buildings, and landscaping.

Permitting will also review and recommend dimensional regulations and lot coverage standards to maintain and enhance the character of existing neighborhoods. These recommendations are expected to be transmitted to the Council by Oct. 31, 2021. Review the public draft of the Skyway-West Hill Land Use Subarea Plan.
