Burien Strengthens ADU Ordinance

Burien City Council took additional steps recently to strengthen the city’s accessory dwelling unit (ADU) ordinance by no longer requiring owner occupancy of the primary residence when leasing or owning an ADU. MBAKS' issue brief on local ADU ordinances has been updated to reflect this change.

Removing the owner occupancy requirement makes ADU leasing or ownership more flexible, something that is very much needed to provide additional housing supply and choice in our region.
