On Tuesday, Dec. 8, the Kirkland City Council adopted the City’s first Sustainability Master Plan. The plan has been in development since January 2019 and is intended to be a roadmap to identify best practices that allow Kirkland’s sustainability strategies to be implemented and measured.
MBAKS has been involved throughout the process, advocating for a balance between housing choice and affordability, economic development, and environmental sustainability. The Built Green team also offered their lens to advocate for incentives and points to help produce more cost-effective sustainable housing. In addition, MBAKS lobbied for goals in the plan that did not put the full weight of sustainable building on new construction.
