King County has released its public review draft of the 2021 Countywide Planning Policies and Urban Growth Capacity Report (formally known as the Buildable Lands Report). These reports will serve as guiding policy to implement the Regional Growth Strategy as jurisdictions update local comprehensive plans in 2024, planning for growth through 2044. The comment period for both documents closes on May 5. MBAKS is reviewing the draft and will submit comments, largely focused on the housing and development patterns chapters.

Comments and suggested revisions will be discussed by the Growth Management Policy Council at its May 26 and June 23 meetings. They will then advance a recommendation to the King County Council for formal adoption.

In case you missed it, King County staff presented at the April 8 RBC meeting to provide an overview of the update and gather feedback from members. View the presentation. Please contact with any questions.
