On Tuesday, August 9, the Federal Way City Council voted to reduce school impact fee amounts to those suggested by their 2023 public schools’ capital facilities plans. Notably, Federal Way School District’s calculations resulted in a zero dollar impact fee for both single-family and multi-family development. City staff reassured committee members that, thanks to alternate funding sources and effective strategic planning, reducing impact fees would not jeopardize school progress and would make Federal Way more attractive to builders and businesses. The resolution takes effect immediately. For years, Federal Way’s onerous impact fees have served as an effective moratorium on development, and MBAKS is proud to have fought to eliminate them since their inception.
