The City of Snohomish Planning Commission met on September 6 to discuss potential comprehensive plan amendments for housing. Under consideration is the expansion of the Medium Density Residential (MDR) zone in the North Lake Subarea, increasing eligibility for Planned Residential Developments (PRDs) to include not only encumbered critical areas but for increasing city recreational spaces. Many of the other incentives are currently targeted at affordable housing (expedited permit times lines, fee waivers, and density bonuses). However, MBAKS will work with staff to also consider making these incentives available for market-rate housing. Finally, city staff is working on an ADU code amendment to comply with HB 1337 and will have language available later this year. MBAKS will be actively working with staff and submitting comments on these topics to the Planning Commission and City Council.
