The Senate Housing & Local Govt Committee held a work session on Monday, Sept. 20, looking at, among other things, the rising cost to build housing caused by high fees and long permit timelines. Thank you to MBAKS 2021 President Todd Levitt of Murray Franklyn Homes and MBAKS member Sunshine Kapus of Sage Homes Northwest for testifying at the work session. Both builders testified they see significantly longer permitting delays throughout the Puget Sound region as local permitting departments struggle to keep up with processing, which adds costs to projects and sometimes makes them infeasible to build. They advocated for solutions to speed reviews and streamline the process.
