Washington’s unemployment rate for January was 5.0% while the Seattle region’s rose to 5.2%.

Building on that momentum, MBAKS launched The Experience — a dedicated series of events unlike anything else in the association calendar. In 2026, the Year of Connection, it hits its stride.

The Washington State Legislature adjourned March 12 after passing several housing bills addressing permitting, condominium development, middle housing, and commercial-to-residential conversions. MBAKS members participated actively throughout the session, meeting with legislators and providing testimony on priorities for the homebuilding industry.

New data from Snohomish County shows that building homes and growing a healthy tree canopy can happen at the same time.

We applaud the Mayor and Seattle City Council for passing this practical reform, which will make it easier to build more housing choices more quickly without compromising environmental standards.
